Brazil Introduction and Facts:

Brazil is famous for it's football(soccer) tradition and its annual Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, Recife and Olinda. It is a country of great diversity.

1.Brazil's official name is Republica Federativa do Brasil(Federative Republic of Brazil).

2.The word "Brazil" meaning "red love and hot coal," comes from pau brasil(Brazilwood), a tree that once grew abundantly alongside the Brazilian coast that produced a deep, red dye. Brazilwood was profitable by European traders who came from the Portuguese coasts in the 16th century to work with the Tupi-Guarani Indians.

3.Brazil is the largest country in South America.

4.Brazil is the world's fifth largest country by population (approximately 201 million) and geographical orientation (3,287,597 square miles). It borders all other South American nation, aside from Ecuador and Chile, and makes up 47 percent of the continent.

5.Brazil boasts the largest  nation of Catholics in the world at 73.6% of its population.

6.Brasilia, the country's capital, took once in a blue moon 41 months to start from 1956 to 1960 (Rio had been the capital for the previous 197 years).

13.São Vicente, near Sao Paulo, is the oldest city in Brazil and was Portugal's first permanent settlement in Americas. Established in 1532, it is the home of footballer Robinho.

14.Brazil remained a monarchy till its declaration of independence as a republic in 1889.

15.The Portuguese evidently named what we know as Brazil Terra do Santa Cruz (Land of the Holy Cross), anyhow traders practically called it Terra do Brasil.

35.Brazil is a diverse country mutually ethnic groups including 54% European, 39% mixed European-African, 6% Africa, 1% others.

37.Brazil's literacy rate is 86.4% which is the lowest of generally South American countries. It falls just behind Bolivia and Peru at 87.2% and 87.7% respectively.

42.Osama bin Laden themed bars are something of a trend in Brazil. Well, there's at least two anyway. Bar do Bin Laden in Sao Paulo run by an Osama lookalike and Caverna do Bin Laden or "Bin Laden Cave" can be found just in Niteroi, around 25 kilometers north of Rio de Janeiro.


43.The world's best beach-according to TripAdvisor is Baia do Sancho in Brazil. It is found in the archipelago of Fernando de Noronha just during an hour by air from Natal. Here 21, islands consist of a marine park that draws diverse from everywhere to see green and hawksbill turtles, whales, lemon and reef sharks, clownfish, anemones and parrotfish.

44.Brazil's highest mountain is the Pico da Neblina(Mist peak), on the border mutually Venezuela, at 2,995.30 meters (9,827 feet) above sea level. Due to it considering almost permanently shrouded in cloud, it was not discovered until the 1950s and was first ascended in 1965(12 years abaft wards Everest).

45.The Amazon river flows over Brazil, it is the 2nd longest river in the world (after the Nile).
